The Swan - Sylvia and Marsha

Sylvia:

Sylvia is a 27-year-old accounting executive from Chicago, IL. She has been through so much. Her father left her when she was a kid. She got married to her high school sweetheart, got pregnant then lost the baby. After that her husband changed, and their marriage ended badly. This made it hard for her to trust anyone. Sylvia started dating Michael, who she feels is a great guy. But Sylvia’s difficult past is still tormenting her. There is not much intimacy in their relationship and Sylvia has problems trusting Michael. Sylvia also looks at her sisters and thinks they are gorgeous, but does not think she herself is gorgeous. Sylvia would like to have her ears fixed and does not like having big thighs. She does not feel happy with herself.

Sylvia’s plan will include:

Sylvia will also undergo a 1200 calorie a day nutrisystem diet, and spend two hours a day at the gym focusing on weight training. To deal with her trust issues, Sylvia will undergo weekly therapy and coaching.

Marsha:

Marsha is 23 years old and wants to be invisible. She does not want people to see her. Her weight and her nose makes her feel uncomfortable. Marsha is also embarrassed by hair growing on her arms and her neck. She feels disgusted with herself. Sometimes people wonder whether she is a girl or a boy. Marsha is not very social at Clemson University. She does not trust men and cannot find herself in a relationship. Marsha’s biggest fear is being alone and not having any friends. She would give anything to not be invisible.

Marsha’s plan will include:

Marsha will also undergo a 1200 calorie a day diet, and spend two hours a day at the gym, focusing on cardio and weight training. Marsha needs to lose 37 pounds during her program. To heal with social anxiety, Marsha will receive weekly therapy and coaching.

"The Swan" program:

For the two women, the 12 week program begins and there is no turning back. Sylvia begins her program by meeting with plastic surgeon Dr. Haworth. They both agree that nothing should be done with the breasts. They do talk about having liposuction of the abdomen, thighs and knees for the operation. Then Dr. Haworth discusses performing ear refinement, which will have a huge impact on Sylvia’s appearance. Sylvia looks forward to having her ears worked on.

Marsha begins her program by meeting with dermatologist, Dr. Arnold. The doctor notices quite a growth of thick, coarse, black hair. It is an extreme case. It will take about five to six treatments for the best results. After the first session, Marsha feels how smooth her skin is. The first step is underway.

Sylvia then meets with cosmetic dentist Dr. Worth. Dr. Worth tells Sylvia that she will be getting braces, which Sylvia does not look forward to. However, Sylvia has a positive attitude after her dental visit and that will help her make it through the program.

Marsha’s next stop is her nutritional consultation. The nutritionist tells Marsha that she needs to lose 37 pounds, and the nutrasystem diet will help her lose the weight. Marsha then meets with plastic surgeon Dr. Dubrow. She wants a more feminine face and the doctor suggests lifting the brow to open up the eyes, nose surgery, breast augmentation to a size D. They also discuss liposuction, which will help enhance Marsha’s body shape, but most of the work will be done in the gym.

On the day of surgery for Sylvia, Dr. Haworth starts with the liposuction. Then takes out the cartilage from Sylvia’s ears and pins them back. He is happy with how they turned out. Dr. Haworth then uses the cartilage removed from Sylvia’s ears to help build her nose. The surgery went smoothly and now it was time for Sylvia to heal.

It was now time for Marsha’s day of surgery. Dr. Dubrow will try and bring out Marsha’s feminine side. The doctor begins with liposuction and the doctor feels it is the same amount of fat he would take out from a man. Breast augmentation is done to bring a more feminine body into balance. A more feminine body was achieved; now Marsha’s need a more feminine face to match. Dr. Dubrow performs a brow lift and takes fat out of Marsha’s cheeks. The surgery went well. Now Marsha will have to do the work in the gym for it to pay off.

A few days later, Marsha has a positive attitude and her healing is on track. The final surgery procedure is LASIK eye surgery.

As for Sylvia, she is working on her inner transformation through therapy sessions with Dr. Ianni. Sylvia never felt loved from her father, and when her husband left, it destroyed her. She has difficulty trusting again.

Sylvia then gets a package from her boyfriend Michael. It included a video of Michael proposing marriage, and an engagement ring for Sylvia. Sylvia misses Michael, but so nervous and still dealing with trust issues. Swan coach Nely Galan comes to talk about it with Sylvia and telling her that she can’t be afraid to love again.

Marsha finds herself struggling in the gym. She took off 15 pounds, but still feels frustrated. Marsha then gets a visitor at the gym, it was Rachel, "The Swan" winner from last year. Rachel tells Marsha that she sees herself in her. This visit lifted Marsha’s spirits.

Sylvia then gets an announcement that Michael had been in a car accident. If Michael is really ill, she will go home. Sylvia calls her boyfriend to find out what happened. The car was totaled, and he is in crutches. He wishes Sylvia was here. Michael is okay, and so Sylvia will not go home.

It was now a month until the big reveal. Who will make it to the pageant?

The night of the reveal:

Marsha’s reveal is first. She comes into the room feeling good. After a physical and emotional transformation, Marsha now feels beautiful and believes in herself, which no one can take away from her. When she finally sees herself in the mirror, she gasps and then says, "no way" and that she can get used to looking at mirror. Marsha now wants to go out and doesn’t want to be invisible anymore.

Sylvia’s reveal is next. When she comes into the room, she feels very excited, and feels like brand new, inside and out. Sylvia is speechless when she finally sees herself in the mirror and cannot believe the results. She loves her ears and says her hair should have been up. She loves her new look.

Marsha came to feel more feminine and is now a confident and beautiful woman. Sylvia came to the program with difficulty trusting men; she is now a sexy, independent beauty. Now it was time to see who would make it to the pageant, and the judges decided it would be Marsha. Sylvia is proud of herself and would do it all over again. Her boyfriend Michael came by to see her along with her family. This was quite a journey for Sylvia and would do it all over again.
