The Swan - Kari and Gina

On tonight’s episode, two sisters will be competing for a spot on "The Swan" beauty pageant. However, one of the sisters has no idea the other is in the competition.

Kari and Gina:

Kari is 25 years old from Placentia, CA. She finds out that she has been selected for "The Swan," but won’t do it if her sister doesn’t want her to do it. When Kari first started high school, she was great and happy with herself. But when she became a sophomore, the development of DD breasts ruined everything. As a result, she had to drop out of a lot of things. Her breasts made her insecure. They also hurt her back and give her headaches. Kari began gaining weight and felt worse about herself. She now wants to feel comfortable and healthy. "The Swan" experts will help her start over.

Kari will also workout two hours a day and six days a week at the gym working on weight training and cardio. She will also be on a 1200 calorie diet. To build self-esteem and learn to be independent, Kari will receive therapy and coaching.

Gina:

After Kari drives off for her Swan program, her sister Gina is informed that she has also been selected. However this needs to be kept a secret from Kari. Gina is 27 years old and has always been her sister’s protector. Having a big chest also ruined a lot of things for her. Gina gained weight also and both sisters struggled with weight problems. Keeping busy at her job has helped her not to think about this problem. She doesn’t feel comfortable about being intimate with her boyfriend. Gina is thankful to have this opportunity. "The Swan" experts will get to work.

Gina’s plan includes:

Face:

Gina will also go on a 1200 calorie-a-day diet and spend two hours a day, six days a week at the gym. Weekly therapy and coaching will help Gina deal with insecurities and focus on herself.

On the first day of their three month transformation, Kari and Gina saw there were no mirrors or any reflective surfaces. Kari even had a compact mirror confiscated from her. This will be the first time Kari does something major without her sister, but still does not realize Gina is only miles away.

Gina begins her program with a surgical consultation with plastic surgeon Dr. Dubrow. He tells her that liposuction will help, but without a tummy tuck, the tummy will still appear lumpy. But the number one thing that bothers Gina is her breasts. Dr. Dubrow will lower the breasts to a D range and then when weight is lost, they should drop to a C range. Gina meets with her nutritionist to discuss her diet, and finds out she must give up fast food and soda.

At Kari’s surgical consultation, she discuss with Dr. Haworth about her breasts also. The doctor will reduce them to a mid-C range. He also wants to make Kari’s face look more feminine.

During Kari’s dental appointment, she is worried about the veneers. But has her teeth done is on track. The night before surgery, the two sisters talk on the phone.

On the day of surgery, Kari is given the body she’s always wanted. Dr. Haworth starts off with liposuction to refine the body, then lower eyelid surgery, then takes out the fat pads behind the cheekbone. Unfortunately, when Kari wakes up from her first set of procedures, she is coughing. She had trouble coming out of anesthesia. Dr. Haworth feels that it may not be possible to perform Kari’s breast reduction and further testing needs to be done.

As for Gina’s surgery, Dr. Dubrow takes fat from inside the cheeks. Then he works on the breast and stomach. The doctor touches up on things and does some nice sculpturing. Dr. Dubrow performs a "skin only" tummy tuck, which means the abdominal muscles are not tightened. When Gina wakes up, she is worried about Kari.

Gina has a rough night, her face and tummy hurts. The doctor tells Gina that things look great and that made her feel better.

While recovering, Kari gets a visit from Dr. Haworth to tell her what went wrong. Kari may have a breathing disorder when she’s asleep, so her surgical plan is on hold. So Kari begins sleep testing in order to be cleared for surgery. She is willing to do anything to get her breast reduction. Kari gets a call from Dr. Haworth telling her that she has been cleared for surgery, which will take place the very next day. Kari finally has her breast reduction and is in good spirits. But she has a lot of catching up to do. This setback caused Kari to be two weeks behind schedule.

For Gina, who regularly communicates with Kari, via phone, keeping the secret of her "Swan" program has become a really big challenge. It is getting harder and harder everyday for Gina to pretend. At this point, both ladies still have one month before their big reveal.

At the night of the reveal, Kari has her reveal first. She is feeling incredible when she comes out. When Kari finally looks in the mirror, she loves what she sees. She can’t believe how small she is.

Next was Gina’s reveal. During her program, she realized that she needs to put some time towards herself. The phone conversations with Kari were difficult for Gina, but exciting. When the mirror is finally revealed, Gina gasps. She can’t believe the reflection in the mirror is her own. She is thankful to everyone. Gina likes what she sees in the mirror.

Now it was time for Kari to find out who was her competition for a spot on the pageant. Gina walks in and Kari is surprised. The two look at each other’s bodies and Kari could not believe that Gina was able to keep the secret so well. They are proud of each other and themselves. But the time came to see who will move onto the pageant. The panel of judges, in consultation with the experts, picked Kari to move on to the pageant. To congratulate both ladies, Kari and Gina’s parents came to see their daughters’ new look.
