Rachel is 33 year old visual merchandiser from Arvada, CO. At first, Rachel looks like someone who wouldn't need a makeover. However, she is suffering from Alopecia, an autoimmune skin disease that causes hair loss on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. Because of her baldness, Rachel feels incomplete and not like a real woman. Her feelings of shame and insecurity have had distressing effects on her social and professional life. She has tried on wigs and treatments in the past, but nothing seems to work. Rachel is a good friend of Peggy, the CSI Detective who received a makeover last season. On this episode, we see that Peggy is still working cases along with her SWAT team leader ex-husband, and still looking fabulous. Now it was Rachel's turn to be on Extreme Makeover™ the television series.

In L.A., Rachel meets with her plastic surgeon, Dr. Jon Perlman to discuss her plastic surgery. On the day of surgery, Dr. Perlman performs a number of procedures including a brow lift, fat injections to the face, liposuction of the knees, inner and outer thighs. Rachel then spends the next part of her extreme makeover plan recuperating.

Rachel spent her Christmas in the Makeover Mansion, and Sam brought a new friend for her. Joy is 13 years old and also suffering from Alopecia and has not met anyone else suffering from this condition. The two share a bond together.

Sam takes her out shopping for a new wardrobe, one that will help her fit into her new body. He suggests that she starts wearing dresses. Rachel feels sexy but out of her comfort zone and Sam tells her it is good to try something different. She should not cover up her body anymore.

Rachel has been in L.A. for 8 weeks now, but will finally receive the one makeover component she has been waiting for. Sam sees the hairpiece and tells Rachel it is one of the most gorgeous he has ever seen. The wig was made by custom wigmaker Greg Taylor of Taylormade. The hairpiece is all hand made, one hair at a time. It fits with a vacuum seal, so there is not need for tape. With this hairpiece, Rachel can participate in activities from swimming to riding roller coasters. To maintain this new head of hair, Rachel will need to shampoo it gently and have it re-styled. Sam runs his hair through Rachel's head and thinks it feels real and fantastic. So, Sam has hair stylist John Allen and hair colorist Kim Vo provide Rachel a new hairstyle with her new head of hair. Darcy Gilmore provides Rachel with makeup and adds eyelashes.

Finally Rachel looks in the mirror for her final results and gasps. She adores her new look and no longer feels like she has to hide. Rachel finally feels like a person with a real head of hair, and not someone just wearing a wig.

Back in Colorado, Rachel has her big reveal at Denver's Grant Humphrey Mansion, the same location as Peggy's reveal a year ago. And it is Peggy who is providing the introduction for her friend Rachel. Rachel walks down the grand steps to see her friends and family. They applaud and many jaws drop as they see Rachel's extreme makeover. Rachel's boyfriend has always though she looked beautiful, but looks more amazing now. Rachel herself feels beautiful inside and out and is not ashamed for being bald. She now wants to go out and enjoy the night.

Rachel's makeover included the following procedures:

  • Brow lift
  • Facial fat injections
  • Liposuction to the knees
  • Liposuction of the inner and outer thighs
  • LASIK eye surgery
  • FotoFacial
  • Tattooed Eyebrows
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Zoom whitening
