Kenna

Kenna is 45-year-old single mother from Amarillo, Texas. She works as a school counselor and loves to play tennis. Kenna has baked under the sun for years and it has taken its toll on her face. The effects have made her look decades older than she really is. Even though Kenna jokes about her looks, her friends and family feel that it has taken its toll on her self-esteem. However during a friendly game of tennis, she got a little written surprise on one of her tennis balls. It read, "You have been chosen for an Extreme Makeover ."

After spending a day of sightseeing in New York with her son, Kenna went to meet with her plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Morello, M.D., F.A.C.S. During consultation, he asked her what she wanted to change. Kenna tells him about the wrinkles on her face and would like her eyes lifted. Dr. Morello tells her about her frown lines and he also suggests botox injections, upper eyelid surgery and a brow lift. Dr. Morello says that Kenna looks "twenty years older than she really is." The doctor shows Kenna what she will possibly look like after surgery through computer imaging. After consultation, Kenna feels impressed with Dr. Morello and that he answered her questions well and he is someone she can trust.

Kenna's surgical makeover included:

  • Facelift
  • Browlift
  • Eyelift
  • Fat removal under her chin
  • Laser resurfacing on her face

On the day of surgery, Kenna was in good spirits. Before going into the operating room, Dr. Morello first made some markings on her face to act as guidelines. Once Kenna was sedated, the surgeon and his team went to work. Dr. Morello first started with the brow lift to give Kenna s eye a more open appearance. After that, he worked on the necessary procedures for the forehead, then the neck, and finally the face. While working, Dr. Morello said he got to "see the changes on the operating table." This was good because Dr. Morello adds, "the key is not have any surprises on the operating table." Kenna had a lengthy anesthesia time and did not come around as quickly, but eventually she woke up.

The day after surgery, Kenna felt awful and for the next couple of days had a migraine. However, four days later she felt better and once again visited Dr. Morello. After removing the stitches, Kenna had a chance to see her face and liked what she saw. At that meeting, Dr. Morello discussed the topic of having Kenna undergo laser surgery to remove the sun damage from her skin. So thirteen days later, she went back to the operating table for laser resurfacing. The doctor says he was able to remove the sunspots from Kenna s face. Now she had to take another two weeks to recover from that operation.

Now that the surgery was over, the rest of Kenna s makeover was about to begin. She received a smile makeover from Dr. Marc Lowenberg, D.D.S. and Dr. Greg Lituichy, D.D.S. Workout sessions with fitness expert David Kirsch helped Kenna get into better shape. Then Allure magazine s editor-in-chief, Linda Wells, provided Kenna with her style makeover. Linda gave some fashion tips to Kenna, and then introduced her to hair stylist Stephen Knoll and celebrity makeup artist Laura Mercier. After the style and smile makeover was completed, Kenna was ready to return home to Amarillo, TX with her new look.

After being on Extreme Makeover the television series, Kenna now feels that she sees the woman that has been inside her all this time. On her way to her unveiling, she says she feels like "Cinderella on her way to the ball." When she revealed herself to her friends and family, they were surprised. Kenna s older sister says that, "Kenna will no longer be confused for being the older sister." Kenna s son was blown away by the results. He says that he s happy for his mom and that her personality will go through the roof. As for Kenna, she feels "overwhelmed" by differences in her appearance. She wants everyone to know how happy she is and that the six weeks of participating on Extreme Makeover the television series were worth it.

Michele:

Michele is a 36-year-old single woman from Worcester, Massachusetts. She has often been confused for being a man, and feels that her tomboy appearance has prevented her from attracting men. Michele wants a makeover to help her go from "Ken to Barbie." Michele s wish came true when one of her friends told her that she was chosen to be on Extreme Makeover the television series.

In New York, Michele meets with her plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Morello, M.D., F.A.C.S. Michele tells the Dr. Morello that she wants a more feminine appearance with a nose refining, bigger lips and a better chin. The doctor agreed with her about the chin implant and even showed her the type of implant that will be used. Dr. Morello liked how Michele carefully identified her features. Through computer imaging, Dr. Morello showed Michele what she would probably look like after surgery. Michele feels fortunate having a surgeon like Dr. Morello.

Michele's surgical makeover included:

  • Nosejob
  • Eyelift
  • Fat removal from her cheeks
  • Chin implant
  • Browlift

On the day of surgery, Dr. Morello first made some marks on Michele s face for guidelines. Then it was off to the operating room for surgery. Due to infected blemishes around Michele s mouth, Dr. Morello did not perform the lip augmentation that day. So he first began with the liposuction, next was the chin implant, then the brow lift. After that Dr. Morello worked on the upper and lower eyelids, then finally the rhinoplasty. When Michele woke up, Dr. Morello was there to tell her that the surgery went great.

After four hard days of recovery at her hotel, Michele went back to Dr. Morello s office for a preliminary unveiling. She is excited with her new face and feels like she s looking at a different person. Michele feels that painful recovery was a "badge of honor" and that she was ready to move on. However after thirteen days, Michele went back to the operating table for her lip augmentation.

Next up for Michele s Extreme Makeover was receiving a smile makeover from Dr. Marc Lowenberg, D.D.S. and Dr. Greg Lituichy, D.D.S. Fitness expert David Kirsch helped Michele get into the shape. Then finally came the style makeover, which was handled by Allure magazine s editor-in-chief, Linda Wells. Linda first provided some fashion tips to Michele. Michele also received a lesson on how to be more ladylike with the help of etiquette expert Nicole Devault. Linda Wells then introduced Michele to hair stylist Stephen Knoll and celebrity makeup artist Laura Mercier. Michele s Extreme Makeover was over, now it was time for the unveiling.

At Michele s unveiling, her friends were shocked and told her she looked great. Her friends were surprised however; Extreme Makeover had a surprise for Michele. She was presented with a one week paid vacation to the Dominican Republic for her and a friend. Michele feels that Extreme Makeover has made her into the woman that she wants to be. And that she can now look in the mirror, eyes open, and sees the woman that was underneath.
