Mary:

Mary is a young teacher from Michigan who thinks she looks like a witch. She has wanted a nose job since she was 12. It is basically the same nose as her father’s, who left her and her mom when she was five. Growing up fatherless, Mary turned to teaching as her profession, teaching and taking care of young children. Mary has been with her boyfriend Chris for eight years, and thinks her looks are affecting their relationship. Besides the nose, Mary also sees sagging in her eyes and a lot of blotchiness in her skin. She also has long blond hair that is just all over the place. Then one day at school, the principal of Mary’s school announces over the intercom that Mary has been selected for the Extreme Makeover™ television show.

Mary grew up in poverty and so, coming to the Makeover Mansion was something like out of a Hollywood movie. At the mansion, she meets with Michael Thurmond and plan out what needs to be done. After that, Mary meets with plastic surgeon Dr. Jon Perlman for her surgical consultation. Mary tells Dr. Perlman the main thing she wants done is her nose, she wants the hump gone, and it’s just so big. The doctor informs her that he can’t make it perfect, but he can make it more feminine and nicer. Dr. Perlman also suggests a chin implant which will help strengthen Mary’s chin. After her surgical consultation, Mary meets with dermatologist Dr. Patrick Bitter to discuss the blotchiness of her skin. Tomorrow is surgery day and Mary’s emotions are huge.

On the day of surgery, Mary calls her boyfriend Chris. It is hard for Mary to not have someone close while going into surgery. Dr. Perlman starts surgery with breast implants, then the chin implant. A mini brow lift helps provide subtle elevation, excess is removed from the upper and lower eyelid. Mary is not overweight, but her fat is disproportionate. So liposuction is performed on the abs, thighs, and love handles. Then came the nose surgery. Finally a light chemical peel is done on Mary’s face. In a later surgery, Dr. Robert Maloney will perform LASIK eye surgery.

Mary experiences the pain recovering from surgery. She is so excited, but feels like a train wreck. A week later, Mary gets a peek at her results. She looks in the mirror and sees how little her nose has become. In tears, Mary hugs Dr. Perlman.

While at Dr. Bitter’s office, Mary asks about a mole on her tummy, the doctor discovers that it is a pre-cancerous mole. The mole is removed. Then at the dentist, Dr. Bill Dorfman gives Mary a new smile. In Michigan, Chris decides to fly to L.A. to see Mary. The mansion is usually off limits, but Chris is allowed to go as long as he does not see Mary face to face. While Chris is standing by the pool and Mary is in her room above behind a curtain, Chris takes a ring from his pocket and asks Mary to marry him.

It is the final week of makeovers, and the final touches are being applied. Dieting and exercising have helped Mary get into shape. Now stylist Sam Saboura comes by the mansion with a new wardrobe that Mary can try out, which will help her look good in and out of the classroom. Now it was time for Mary’s long, long hair to be cut and colored. Then makeup artists help bring Mary’s features into focus. When Mary sees her final results, she screams in excitement.

Back in Michigan, Mary is both excited and nervous. This is one of the most important nights of her life. Mary’s boyfriend, Chris is the one doing the introductions. Mary came out and Chris was in total shock and almost started to cry. Mary’s mom thought she was gorgeous. Then, in front of everyone and face to face with Mary, Chris proposed again. Mary changed so much as a person and a woman. Everything has come together and it is a dream come true for Mary. Finally, Mary re-introduces herself to her students and she shows them her new engagement ring.

Valerie, the second candidate on tonight’s episode works on a Missouri farm, which is a place to hide. Valerie’s masculine looks have plagued her since high school. She is married to a wonderful man, but feels she cheated him out of a wife. Then one day on a Mississippi riverboat, before docking in St. Louis, the riverboat captain announces that Valerie has been selected for the Extreme Makeover™ television show.

In L.A., Valerie meets with plastic surgeon Dr. Jon Perlman. What Valerie is unhappy with the most is her nose. Dr. Perlman will take away excess cartilage, and narrow tip. Also, her brow is a bit droopy and a brow life will address that. For the breasts, having them lifted will help them look fuller. Tomorrow is the day of surgery and Valerie just cannot picture herself with her new look.

On surgery day, Dr. Perlman begins with liposuction of the hips and inner/outer thighs. With the fat taken, it is used to sculpt Valerie’s lips and cheeks. Then Valerie’s brow is raised and her upper and lower eyelids are lifted. The doctor then works on the nose’s symmetry and composition. Then came the face and neck lift. During a separate surgery, Dr. Perlman performs a breast lift and a tummy tuck. While recovering, Valerie is overwhelmed when she looks in the mirror. However, a week later when the bandages are taken off, Valerie is pleased by what she sees and feels like she has a new relationship with the mirror.

Now, Valerie meets with cosmetic dentist Dr. Bill Dorfman to straighten out and whiten her teeth. After determining that she was legally blind, Dr. Robert Maloney performs LASIK eye surgery on Valerie. After the procedure, Valerie was able to read with a 20/20 vision. Style expert Sam Saboura applies the finally touches with fashion. Valerie has worn a dress probably twice in the last 20 years. On a single day, she tried on more dresses than she has in her entire life. After Sam provided Valerie with fashion tips, she feels she can buy dresses for herself. Then on the final day, hair and makeup is provided. Feeling more feminine, Valerie is ready to go home for her reveal.

At a city museum that features refurbished treasure, the museum director presents the newest refurbished treasure, Valerie. She revealed her makeover to her friends and family, now looking more feminine.

Mini Makeover (Sean)

Sam Saboura spies on Sean as he’s having lunch at a hot dog stand that he eats at every day. Sam interrupts Sean’s lunch to tell him, he’s been selected for a mini-makeover. Sean has not had a girlfriend in years.

For the mini-makeover, hair stylists and colorists take Sean’s long, red hair and cut it short and color it to a walnut brown color. His beard is also shaved off. Then Sam helps him dress up to look tall, dark, and handsome. Then to complete the mini-makeover, Sam helps Sean brush up on his etiquette with good table manners.

Finally Sean was revealed to his friends with his new makeover. The mini-makeover made Sean more datable.
