This week s episode deals with more of a reconstructive story. One of the stories this week involves Sarah, who will receive breast reconstruction on the show. Also we will view Liz, who finds out that her makeover was a long and frustrating experience but will it all be worth it? On the lighter side, Sam Saboura will choose another lucky hopeful for a "mini makeover."

Sarah:
Sarah is a 51-year-old nurse and mother from Portland, Oregon. Breast cancer is a problem that a lot of women have been dealing with. Unfortunately one of the ways women are relieved of this disease is by undergoing a mastectomy (breast removal). Sarah became a victim of this disease and lost her left breast in the process. The audition tape she sent was her revealing to producers her missing breast. As a result of losing her breast, Sarah does not feel sexy and that her sex life with her husband has become limited. Plus the chemotherapy has taken its toll on her face, and said that all the cancer treatments added 10 years to her looks. Sarah wants to have her breast reconstructed because she wants to feel like a whole woman again. Also since she is a nurse, showing her makeover to other breast cancer patients will mean a lot to them. So one day, Sarah and her family are enjoying a day inside a corn maze. When they reach the end, Sarah s family has a surprise for her; her dream was about to come true because she was chosen to be on the show.

In Hollywood, Sarah begins her road to reconstructive surgery. Unlike the other participants of the show, Sarah has consultation with two surgeons instead of one. Dr. Harvey Zarem, M.D., F.A.C.S., will be performing the breast reconstruction, while Dr. Garth Fisher, M.D., F.A.C.S., will assist, then perform the other procedures. Dr. Fisher is the first one to consult with Sarah. He asks her about her surgical history, which she explains to him. Sarah also asks for suggestions about improving her skin elasticity, which has been effected from cancer treatments. Dr. Fisher suggests a brow lift for her, and now it was Dr. Zarem s turn. Dr. Zarem takes a look at Sarah s breast and the two discuss options for breast reconstruction. The decide an option that is the "least invasive." Sarah did not decide on using an expander or a skin graft, however both she and the doctor decided on having the implant placed into the thin pocket of skin where her original breast once was.

Sarah s surgery will include:

Then later Sarah will receive laser skin resurfacing through V-beam lasers, which Dr. Ava Shamban, M.D., will perform on her face. Plus she will receive a teeth whitening to be performed by Dr. William Dorfman.

On the day of surgery, Sarah goes to the operating table and when she wakes up, will be a new person. Dr. Zarem performed the breast reconstruction while Dr. Fisher assisted. After the reconstruction, Dr. Zarem was pleased with the results. Then Dr. Fisher performed the rest of the surgical makeover. He used an endoscopic camera to help assist him with the brow lift. The entire procedure took seven hours for the surgeons and their team to complete. Once finished, Dr. Fisher called Sarah s family to inform them that she was ok.

A few days after surgery, Sarah met with Dr. Fisher and takes a look at her post-surgery results. Sarah s response to her new look is that she looks ten years longer and that she loves it. Now that the surgery part was over, of course the rest of the "extreme team" needed to work their magic. Sarah s healthy lifestyle transformation expert was Michael George. Then celebrity hair stylists and makeup artists provided their expertise, Dwayne Ross was the hair stylist and colorist, Darcy Gilmore provided makeup and Daniel McFadden was the makeup artist. Of course, let s not forget Sam Saboura and his fashion tips.

Before going back home, Sarah had one more stop on her makeover journey and that was to shop for a bra. Now she feels whole again, now she feels sexy and now it was time to go home.

For her unveiling, Sarah was going to meet her family and friends at an Oregon mansion. Sarah mentions that she now feels feminine, youthful and sexy. Her husband mentioned that the day of her unveiling was two years to the day Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer. Then Sarah revealed her new look to her friend and family. They couldn t believe it was her, especially her husband. Sarah s daughter was so impressed and thought she looked completely different. As for Sarah, she was glad to be home. And her final thoughts were that she felt like a glamour queen, and that this whole experience of being on Extreme Makeover the television series was "wonderful and magnificent."

Liz:
Liz is a 51-year-old legal secretary from Houston, Texas. There she is a part of high society and belongs to a group of honorary sisters. Liz is a Scottish immigrant who has always dreamed of coming to the United States and becoming a U.S. citizen. Another dream that she has is to be beautiful. Liz considers herself as a "chinless wonder." Well a few weeks after her dream of becoming a citizen came true, she found out her next wish was about to become a reality too. While at lunch with her honorary sisters, Liz got a surprise from their waitress during desert. The waitress told Liz that she was selected to be on Extreme Makeover the television series.

First on the agenda was to meet with the plastic surgeon. Liz s plastic surgeon would be Dr. Malcolm Lesavoy, M.D., F.A.C.S. Liz was free to any suggestions on how to make her more beautiful, however she did point out her chin to Dr. Lesavoy. For her chin, the doctor suggested a chin implant. Also Dr. Lesavoy mentioned that during surgery there is a possible chance for complications, especially since she was older.

Then later she will receive LASIK eye surgery from Dr. Robert Maloney, M.D., V-beam laser skin treatment from Dr. Ava Shamban, M.D., and extensive dental work from Dr. William Dorfman, D.D.S.

Liz s Dental Work included:

While receiving her dental work, Dr. Dorfman mentioned to Liz that she had a small mouth and working on it was like making those ship in a bottle. When Liz returned to visit Dr. Dorfman, she had a gift for him, it was a ship in a bottle.

After surgery, Liz wondered what she had done and that she doesn t looked the way she had hoped. During consultation, Dr. Lesavoy informed Liz the possibility of complications and infections. Infection and swelling did cause complications in her makeover. Liz s makeover took longer than expected, stretching from 6 weeks to 3 months. During this time, she was second-guessing her choice to have the surgery performed on her. At times she felt like she didn t care if she wasn t beautiful but just wanted to go home. Finally everything started to come together for her. First her swelling decreased and the infection went away. Then the rest of the "extreme team" now had to do their part. Sam Saboura took care of the fashion tips. Michael Thurmond was the body makeover and weight loss expert. Finally hair and makeup, with hair stylist Maurice Daduon, hair colorist Corrine Danchaud, and makeup artist Bruce Grayson, helped transform Liz into a beautiful woman.

At her unveiling, Liz was greeted by her honorary sisters, and the rest of her friends and family. Liz finally felt beautiful and attractive. She felt that the setbacks made her feel like she should not have done this, but tonight she feels that "it was worth it." Plus the swelling will still continue to decrease and make her even more beautiful. Thanks to this makeover, Liz is a 51-year-old with a bright future.

Ann:
As for the "mini makeover," out of a handful of applicants, Sam Saboura chose Ann, a 32-year-old nurse. In fact, he and his team surprised her at her home. There was no surgery involved in this makeover; the only procedures included LASIK eye surgery and teeth whitening. Now with a change in Ann s hairstyle provided by John Allen, and hair coloring by Kim Vo, her eyebrows waxed, and makeup provided by Antonella Reynar, Sam and his team helped give Ann a "mini makeover." They were able to turn Ann from "scrubs" to "scrumptious."
