Extreme Makeover™ the television series

On this episode we find a self proclaimed “nerd” and a woman being teased for her looks, both looking for a change. But their worlds will be completely changed when they are chosen to be participants on Extreme Makeover™ the television series. Plus “extreme team” style expert Sam Saboura will give a lucky person, a “mini makeover” where he will give someone a makeover without the use of plastic surgery.

John:
John is 27 years old and lives in Hockley, Texas. He is married and works as a video game designer. John is the Vice-President and co-founder for Roxor games, a video game company. His reasons for wanting a makeover is that he feels his looks have prevented him from gaining the respect of his peers in the gaming industry. He hopes that a makeover will make him look more like a professional, fitting for a man of his position. John soon found out that his "nerd" image days will soon be over; when he found out he was chosen to receive a makeover.

When John arrived in Beverly Hills, he began his journey by having a consultation with plastic surgeon, Dr. Jon A. Perlman, M.D., F.A.C.S. John told Dr. Perlman what he hopes to achieve with plastic surgery. Then Dr. Perlman gave his insight on what needs to be done for John s makeover. After consultation, both Dr. Perlman and John came to an understanding on what procedures will be performed on the day of surgery.

John s plastic surgery makeover will include:

• Rhinoplasty
• Otoplasty (left ear pinned back)
• Chin implant
• Fat injections to the face
• Buccal fat pads excised (cheek reduction)
• Face and neck liposuction

• Teeth whitening
• Dental bonding

John also received LASIK eye surgery, which was performed by Dr. Robert Maloney. Once he could see without the aid of glasses, John went to the local observatory and looked at the stars and planets. The body makeover was not yet complete, now John needed to get into shape. Fitness expert, Michael Thurmond will help John get in shape through a diet and exercise regiment.

Now it was time for Sam Saboura to help work his magic on John. Sam saw John s "anime" t-shirts and exchanged them with a more stylish and sophisticated look. Before the makeover, John s hair was long, curly, brown, and unkempt. Now with the help of hair stylist Kiara Bailey and hair colorist Matthew Galea Pace, John s hair was shorter, more stylish, and blond. Makeup artist Daniel McFadden provided the finishing touches. After the hair and makeup, John saw his new look and was very pleased. Now it was ready to go home.

At his unveiling, everyone was surprised by John s new look. His wife joked that, "He s now out of my league and that scares me." However John was given a surprise himself. His hair was donated to Locks of Love, and at the unveiling; he got a chance to meet the young girl who was the recipient of his hair. This was a touching moment at the unveiling. In just six weeks, John went from "Don Quixote to Don Juan" all with the help of Extreme Makeover the television series.

Candace:
Candace is 29 years old and lives in Lincoln, Nebraska. She is a mother of two and works as a family support worker. Her reasons for wanting an makeover is because all her life, she has been teased for her looks. She has been called "Big Bird" from Sesame Street and Beeker from the Muppet Show. Candace is looking to re-enter the job market and wants a new look when she does. Candace was in for a big surprise when she found out she was going to have a makeover.

In Beverly Hills, Candace began her journey by consulting with Dr. Garth Fisher, M.D., F.A.C.S. Candace and Dr. Fisher discussed about what needed to be done to help give a proper makeover through plastic surgery. The nose was discussed and so was a breast augmentation. More cosmetic procedures will be done on the day of surgery, but Dr. Fisher knows exactly what to perform and Candace knew what to expect.

Candace s plastic surgery makeover will include:

• Upper eyelid surgery
• Browlift
• Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
• Bone contouring above the eyes
• Cheek implants
• Lower eyelid tightening
• Breast augmentation
• Liposuction on thighs and stomach

Candace took a few days to recover from her surgery. Next up was extensive dental work, to be performed by Dr. William Dorfman, D.D.S.

The dental makeover will include:

• Baby tooth extracted
• Bridge on baby tooth
• Cross bit
• 12 porcelain veneers
