A youthful complexion and glow is a highly sought-after feature in today's world. With the media focus on beautiful, flawless, and ageless factors, it is no wonder why cosmetic plastic surgery procedures are in high demand. However, with the economical problems that everyone is facing, it becomes a question of, "What procedure(s) can I afford?"

At the Palm Desert plastic surgery practice of board certified plastic surgeon Suzanne M. Quardt, M.D., patients have the option of undergoing a minimally invasive facial rejuvenation procedure – “Dr. Q’s Liquid Facelift.” Not only is this technique an alternative to the traditional facelift surgery, it is regarded as a more cost-effective choice. This method of renewal is a compilation of various procedures, from a daily skin care routine to facial injectables and fillers; due to the gradual process, patients are able to cover costs for an extended time period, as opposed to paying one lump sum.

The first step in "Dr. Q's Liquid Facelift" is to identify the trouble areas and discuss your desired outcome. She understands that every person has a unique facial structure, which is why your procedure will be personalized to meet your needs. Once you have identified your problem areas, Dr. Quardt will recommend implementing a daily skin care routine if there is not one currently followed. She may prescribe a regimen that includes eye cream and anti-aging cream for the neck and décolletage, along with sunscreen to help prevent sun damage. The next step is to administer a muscle relaxant to the deep wrinkles and lines; Dr. Quardt often uses Botox ® and Dysport ®. These facial injectables block nerve muscle response that is causing repeated motion and wrinkle formation.

In most circumstances, Dr. Quardt will allow the injectable to take effect before proceeding with other treatments. If you feel that the treated line and wrinkles are still too deep, you may receive filler injections in order to fill them in and add volume to the face. Facial fillers are also used to create fuller lips for those who wish to regain a plump appearance since thinned out lips are a common sign of aging. In her years of experience, Dr. Quardt has seen the facial contour become gaunt and lose its full shape. To correct this appearance, she uses Sculptra Aesthetic® to add volume to the face.

A benefit of Sculptra Aesthetic is that the results are gradual – you can see results improve over time and they are said to last up to two years. Injected in the deep dermis, it helps replace lost collagen by stimulating new growth. As time passes, the wrinkles and lines are volumized and a new, more youthful look is achieved. Dr. Quardt usually performs two to four treatments at four to six weeks apart. Initially, there may be some swelling bruising may occur, but with the use of lidocaine and epinephrine, it is minimal and should subside in approximately one week. Because every patient is different, treatments are highly personalized. Following each treatment, Dr. Quardt vigorously massages the face in order to evenly distribute the injectable in the target area and prevent "sculptoma," which is the formation of nodules. Patients are also recommended to follow the "5-5-5" rule: five minute massages, five times a day for five days following the treatment.

For many, the use of Sculptra Aesthetic reduces the need to undergo skin resurfacing procedures because it can often help improve the quality of the skin. However, some patients may also undergo laser skin resurfacing, a chemical peel, or microdermabrasion. Dr. Quardt can recommend the most appropriate course of treatment during a visit. She may also suggest minimally invasive cosmetic surgery procedures, such as upper eyelid surgery ("blepharoplasty"), to help achieve a more refreshed appearance. Also, jowling in the lower face and/or neck can be treated with minimally invasive laser liposuction ("lipoplasty"). Through small incision under the chin, a laser is used to melt away fat and suction.

Should you choose to undergo a liquid facelift such as the one performed by Dr. Quardt, you may be able to ward off the need for a more invasive procedure a few years longer. In addition, if you suffer from a medical condition that prevents you from undergoing major surgery, "Dr. Q's Liquid Facelift" may be the right option for you.
