As you consider undergoing a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure, there are various factors to take into careful consideration. Once you have decided which surgical procedure will provide you with optimal results, the next step is to meet with a few plastic surgeons who specialize in this area. It is strongly advised that you choose a surgeon who has a significant amount of experience in plastic surgery in order to ensure that you are in well-trained, skilled hands throughout your entire surgical process.

Whether you have previously undergone a cosmetic procedure or visited a surgeon for the first time, we all know that it can be frustrating at times. Unfortunately, there are some physicians who rush patients through their consultations and offer very little information about the surgery. Patients have often felt that they were pressured into undergoing a procedure and are left unhappy with their results. In order to avoid such feelings, it is important that you feel comfortable with your doctor from the initial visit.

Once you schedule your appointment to meet with a surgeon, be sure to pay close attention to his/her personality. A caring and professional doctor will allow you to express your questions and concerns, as well as thoroughly address them. Building a strong relationship with your surgeon can lead to successful results and an enjoyable experience. A well-trained surgeon will carefully explain the details of your surgery, what to expect before, during, and after surgery, as well as provide you with examples of his/her work. If the doctor does not show you before and after patient photos, you may want to do more research on his/her background and training. Viewing images of a surgeon’s results are an important part of the process as these support his/her professionalism and skills.

If you find that you are not at ease with a particular physician, meet with another surgeon. Do not feel forced to schedule surgery with a doctor just because you have attended a consultation. It is very common to meet with at least two or three surgeons before making a final decision. Your surgeon’s number one priority should be your safety and satisfaction, not selling you on a procedure. Some surgeons may recommend visiting with other professionals in order for you to be sure of your choice when scheduling your procedure.

Trust your instincts and meet with as many surgeons necessary until you are sure that he/she is the right doctor for you.
