What is a Prosthodontist?

Everyone knows what an orthodontist does. Periodontists are known to be specialists in the treatment of gum disease, but unless your general dentist referred you to a specialist for a full or partial mouth reconstruction, you probably don’t know what a Prosthodontist is or does.

A prosthodontist is a dental specialist in the restoration and replacement of teeth. He or she has had additional training beyond dental school. The prosthodontist is an expert in the restoration of the decayed part of a tooth with silver or plastic material, the placement of one or several crowns or implants in a section of a mouth, and the partial or complete reconstruction of a neglected mouth with crowns, implants or dentures.

Prosthodontists can also be experts in bite analysis and cosmetic dentistry.

This article written and provided by Dr. Zweig. Dr. Zweig finished his specialty training in prosthodontics at the University of Southern California in 1980. Since 1981, he has been practicing prosthodontics and general dentistry in Beverly Hills.

If you or anyone you know are in need of any dental restoration, from one tooth to an entire mouth, Dr. Zweig has the training and experience to help. To schedule a consultation with Dr. Zweig click here.
