Plastic Surgery Makes for Entertaining Reality TV

Two hot topics right now include Reality TV and plastic surgery. Now put both topics together, and some pretty interesting entertainment will result.

As a society on a whole, we are infatuated with voyeurism; looking into the lives of others is exciting. Maybe it's because we live vicariously through their happenings, or simply because we like to see that other people are just as human (imperfections and all!). Whatever the particular reasons, this trend seems to be here to stay - especially when it comes to plastic surgery.

Breast Reduction

While national hit shows such as "The Swan" and "Extreme Makeover" have turned into occasional reruns, "Dr. 90210" flourishes. Even showing the graphic "reality" of what goes on before surgery, after surgery, and recovering from surgery, these Reality TV series all chronicle patients' cosmetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery experiences - and people everywhere can't stop watching!

It's probably safe to say that you know at least one person who has undergone some sort of surgical alteration. It also wouldn't be much of a stretch to assume that you are aware of the many plastic surgery procedures that exist, along with their benefits, potential risks, and length of time it takes to heal - whether it is due to a personal experience, secondhand information, or a television program like "Dr. 90210."

Plastic surgeons are even becoming celebrities in their own right. Take for example Robert M. Rey, M.D. - the famous physician and main focus of "Dr. 90210." He has helped many patients attain beautiful, new bodies through procedures such as breast augmentation. In turn, millions tune in to watch.

The popularity of plastic surgery-related Reality TV has recently intrigued the likes of stars such as Brigitte Nielsen and Kim Kardashian.

Plastic surgeons are even becoming celebrities in their own right.

Nielsen, from VH1's "Surreal Life," "Strange Love," and "Celebrity Rehab," has just undergone liposuction - filmed live - on German television, and is now scheduled for three more show installments. It is reported that the actress will also get facelift surgery, and a breast reduction to minimize the size of her breasts which she previously had enlarged.

Kardashian, of E! Entertainment's "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," underwent a far less-invasive procedure on her show: cellulite treatment. The curvaceous celebutante let viewers watch as a doctor worked on slimming her stomach, backside, and thighs.

Once kept a secret by Hollywood, plastic surgery is now being embraced by both the stars and the rest of society, while sharing their experiences on the small screen. It is probably likely to also say that audiences will continue to partake in the guilty pleasure of watching.
