Endoscopic Plastic Surgery Provides a Rapid Recovery

“New minimal incision techniques for facial plastic surgery allow for less scarring and a more rapid recovery than ever before,” states Dr. Don Revis, Jr., a plastic surgeon in Ft. Lauderdale who has been performing laparoscopic surgery for the last nine years. “As we age, the cumulative effects of gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of everyday life begin to show in our faces. Now there is a way to refresh your appearance without leaving telltale scars or changing the way you look.”

According to Dr. Revis, a facelift, which improves the appearance of the face and neck, and a browlift, which improves the appearance of the eyebrows and forehead, can now be performed without placing any incisions on the face. “Rather than give you a different appearance that is, unfortunately, rather common with many face lifting techniques,“ reports Dr. Revis, “I strive to restore a more youthful appearance to the face. You won't look different, you will look younger and more refreshed.”

Endoscopic surgery, first developed to remove the gallbladder and appendix, has a wide variety of applications in plastic surgery. Dr. Revis applies the latest techniques for lifting of the face and eyebrows that involves minimal incisions hidden in the hairline above the ear and inside the mouth, this makes your scars virtually invisible. Through these minimal incisions, Dr. Revis uses an endoscope, a small camera the size of a pencil, to elevate and redrape the tissues. This procedure can restore high cheekbones, arched eyebrows and give more definition to the face that is frequently lost with aging.

Dr. Revis cautions that before undergoing endoscopic plastic surgery, it is important to find a plastic surgeon who is experienced in laparoscopic surgery, rather than one who has picked up the techniques at a weekend course. These procedures typically take two to four hours to perform, and are performed in an outpatient surgery center or hospital.

Deep intravenous sedation, called “twilight sleep,” is the method of anesthesia preferred by Dr. Revis. “You breathe for yourself, but you are in a deep sleep throughout the procedure,” reports Dr. Revis. “You should feel no pain, and you should not remember the procedure.” Afterwards, you will notice an improvement in the appearance of your face immediately and will be able to resume most of your normal activities within one week.
